Houston’s Neighborhoods
Texas Metal Roof Contractors serves many of the Incorporated Areas surrounded by Houston TX from or Central Houston Location. One of those areas my family and I are very familiar with is South Side Place. We actually lived there for a couple of years back in the mid-seventies. Our company had several roof repair jobs in Southside Place and West University.
Small Is The Definition
South Side Place is a small incorporated community within central Houston TX. Another of Houston high-end incorporated communities, West University, surrounds South Side Place. Back in mid-seventies when we first moved to Houston, we rented a lovely older house in Southside Place. Most of the homes there at that time were the original homes built when Southside Place was incorporated. Southside place is nine blocks log and one blog wide. When we lived there, most of the residents were older. The neighborhood was pretty quiet, really quiet, compared to most of Houston. However, living there had its adventures.
Surprise Inhabitants
The neighborhood was infested with roof rats. As I drove into my driveway one evening, I saw what I first thought was a squirrel scurrying across a telephone line. Upon further examination, I discovered it was a rat. It was a rat the size of a squirrel. Next day a bought a couple of rat traps thinking I would just catch whatever might be in the house. That night a set a trap with a piece of bacon. I barely had turned out the lights and lay down on the bed when a heard the trap snap. I got up went back in the kitchen, the rat was caught in the trap. The trap had him right across his head, and he was dragging the trap and shaken his head trying to free himself. I had to hit with a hammer to finish him.
Called in The Pros
After that experience, I knew we needed professional help. We hired an exterminator and got quite a surprise after he finished his survey. These were roof rats, and they were nesting in the attic. It was not one or two; it was a colony. Fortunately, these guys had the remedy, and after a few days, the rats were gone. After talking to neighbors, I found they all had regular visits from the exterminators to keep their home rat-free.
The New South Side Place
That was old Southside Place. It is a whole new community now. All the old house have been demolished. On many of the lots, which were pretty good size, two zero lot line house were built. There are now sixty businesses located within the city limits. There is now a new City Hall and a new police station. South Side place is on a par with its neighbor West University as one
