Galveston Railroad Museum


Located at 2602 Santa Fe Pl, Galveston, TX 77550. In the heart of Galveston Island, the Galveston Railroad Museum offers visitors the opportunity to view locomotives, model trains, and passenger cars. The museum also houses one of the largest collections of restored railroad equipment in the country. The museum is a popular attraction for tourists, and the site also hosts seasonal events. There are six permanent exhibits, including an open air caboose, a Santa Fe diesel, and the famous streamlined Texas Limited passenger train. In addition to the railroad museum, the historic Strand district is a great place to see Victorian-style buildings. The district was the center of the city for a brief period in the 19th century, and surviving buildings still stand today. The district is also home to galleries, antique stores, and restaurants. The area is also home to several museums, including the Galveston Naval Museum and the Texas Seaport Museum.

The Strand is a five-block National Historic Landmark District that features many of Galveston’s most important buildings. The buildings include the Grand 1894 Opera House, which is the state’s official opera house. The East End Historical District was Galveston’s first residential neighborhood. This area has colorful historic homes and manicured gardens. It is home to some of the best-preserved 19th century residential architecture in Texas.
